Sony… What?

Ok, reading an article about how badly the PS3 is doing. Ill start it off with this little intro

“Matt Levitan, marketing and public-relations manager for PlayStation Canada, says the company has no comment on a possible price drop.”

Allright, Cool. Now what does he have to say about the Wii?

“”The Wii is very different than the PS3,” said Levitan. “We’ve always said, ‘Good for Nintendo for trying something different.’ They’re not interested in next-gen, and it appears they aren’t really interested in an on-line strategy either. If they can do well at $279 with their franchises, that’s something they can be proud about. But that’s not the direction we’re going.”"

Hey, thats kinda cool. But then

”They are both video-game consoles,” Levitan admitted, “and I’d be a fool to say that people aren’t going to look at them both and say, ‘One is outselling the other x to 1,’ but that being said, we really took a chance with the PS3, we made a serious investment in what the hardware does, and we’re asking consumers to make an investment in a long life cycle, too.”

Your joking, right? You took the PS2, made it even more expensive and overpowered, followed the formula to the line, but *you* took a chance? My ass. You suck.

  1. But you know, I can’t help but feel a bit sympathetic toward old Sony. If there’s anything out there that I have a real sense of ‘brand loyalty’ with, it’s Sony… I can still remember the SMELL of my old walkman!

The first playstation revolutionised the concept of a gaming console, back then they really were taking chances. The PS3 needs to have come out a lot cheaper and a little later, with enough good games to justify the hardware.

They’re gunning for a complete home entertainment system, not just a console, and that’s a hell of a risk of a sort, without the infrastructure to support itself like Microsoft’s…

  2. Ill agree that Microsoft may have more liquid assets to pour into the 360 project, they really dont seem to have the backing of hardware savvy like Sony should have. In all honesty, in dealing with other sony products, like their marine and car electronic lines, they are generally cheaply made, “throw-away” types of hardware.

In other words, they should have known better then pulling a Trump, with the whole “I’m the most expensive, and the best. You *will* buy me. Hell, the old YouTube PS3 vs Wii (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1hwb5yGZZQ)

  3. So what we’re saying is that the PS3 is trying too hard to be a PC. Right?
